Humans have been eating them for thousands of years: You have to wonder who the first person was who thought they looked good to eat! Whoever it was, they pre-dated the Romans; humans have been portrayed in history eating wild caught oysters as far back as that, and the earliest known record of someone farming oysters is a Roman called Sergius Orata. He not only raised them, he also built hydraulic and environmentally adapted systems to control the water levels of his oyster farm. Pretty brilliant for back in the day!
