There are several different ways that farmed oysters can be raised in the water.
The ‘Float System’ is when oysters are grown in cages that float within the water column. The cages are cleaned or flipped periodically by the oyster farmer to help limit the growth of barnacles and algae. This system is useful because it allows more access to food, since the oysters are kept in the area of the water column where algae growth is at its peak.
