SUMMARY:2020 U.S. Oyster Festival - Shucking Contest & Cook-Off
DESCRIPTION:For 54 years\, the Rotary Club of Lexington Park has sponsored the popular National Oyster Festival in St. Mary’s County.  This year\, due to concern for the well-being of Festival goers and volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic\, the Club will host small\, controlled localized and virtual events. These events will serve to preserve the U.S. Oyster Cook-off and the U.S. Oyster Shucking Contest. Current planning calls for live streaming or pre-recording these events. This will perhaps involve a wider scope of national cookers and shuckers to create a national ‘virtual’ celebration of the Oyster this October.  Find out more on the U.S. Oyster Festival website and Facebook page. \nMark your calendars now! \nOctober 17\, at 1 p.m. – ‘Virtual Oyster Cook-off’ – watch Gywn Novak\, former U.S. Oyster Cook-off Judge and owner of No Thyme to Cook prepare the leading oyster recipe submitted for the competion. \nOctober 17\, at 3 p.m. – ‘Virtual Oyster Shucking’  – watch as shuckers from Maryland\, Florida and around the state display their talents live.
